Sticker Queen
You can stick, you can stick, you're stickering and teeshirting your life! We can stick, we can tee, I am the Sticker Queen!
I have a goal.
I will have over 450 sticker and teeshirt designs on my Redbubble and TeePublic shop by the end of 2024. Originally my goal was 500 designs total, but I got a harsh dose of reality from a good friend. Basically he told me some of my designs were crap and I could do better.
This was both high praise and it hurt my feeling. This combination made me reflect on my strategy and it also made me yell at him.
He could have been a little nicer when it came to giving me advice, but on the other hand, this friend has the skill and ability to be considered a professional artist. No one has ever put my work in the same league as a real pro. All of my knowledge for drawing comes from elementary and middle school, where I was less than encouraged, and finally followed up much later in life with the advancement of content available through Google, YouTube, and my all-time-favorite, soon to be banned, Tickity Tickity TikTok.
I guess practice can pay off if you work on something long enough.
I’m very proud of one of my newest mailman themed designs:
It’s a retro design based on the popular West Coast Mailster, the three-wheeled delivery vehicle used by postal employees in the 50’s and 60’s (and honestly, with how the post office works, probably used in the 70’s as well, though they would never admit it officially).
I don’t think I could have drawn this if my friend didn’t push me to do better. Maybe my work, in general, will finally bridge the gap from quantity to quality.
I have a goal. I want to be the Sticker Queen (or the TeeShirt Queen, or both) of Redbubble and TeePublic. I won’t be the queen if I don’t keep pushing out the best work I can possibly create. And actually, my designs in 2024 are mostly better than those from 2023 and 2022. If you look at my first 2023 sticker, you’ll shake your head. It’s bad. I don’t know why I keep it up there. Maybe just to see where I came from.
I’m even proud of the TikTok video I made to promote it, and even though it only has 256 views as of posting this entry into Sparkleweather’s Substack… I feel it’s good. It’s a lot better than what I used to make.
Watch my video, and tell me what you think. Look at my shops on either platform and let me know what you think. Be horrible to me, like my friend was, if it can help me become the Sticker (and TeeShirt) Queen.
